Insomnia, stress, and headaches can be effectively treated in
group settings by an appropriately trained and experienced
psychotherapist. As part of my training and past service, I
have helped many group participants using cognitive-behavioral and
mindfulness-based approaches.
The next group will start in January, 2009; details will appear soon.
Insomnia
If you have
insomnia you know what it is and why it is bad. The good news is
that insomnia can be effectively treated with a well-established,
cognitive-behavioral treatment. According to numerous studies and
my professional experience, this treatment works well in a
small-group setting -- as well as, and even better than,
individual therapy. The current insomnia group is full:
Overcome Your Insomnia
Cognitive-Behavioral Group Treatment
Six lunch-time sessions
Fridays, 12-1:30pm.
December 5th, 2008 -- January 16th, 2009
(no meeting December 26th)
Status: the group is full
Logistics:
- Initial evaluation: Prior to December 5th, schedule an evaluation appointment with me to determine whether
this group is an approparite treatment for you and whether you would want to participate in the group.
- Attendance: To benefit from the treatment, you need to attend every session. If missing a session is
unavoidable, I will try to find the time for an individual make-up appointment with you.
- Sleep medication: The goal of this treatment is to overcome insomnia and start sleeping without sleep medication. If you are currently taking sleep medication (whether prescription, over the counter, or herbal), you need to
be willing to stop it completely, or at least to taper the use of that medication down to no more than once
or twice a week. Consult with your physician before stopping or tapering prescription medication.
- Payment: You may be able to use your medical insurance and medical reimbursement account to pay for this treatment; consult your benefits advisor. The cost of each session is $50. The evaluation and make-up appointments are billed at my individual rate.
